Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
