One teenage youth was discovered deceased just days following being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The inquest heard from school staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his questioning he was released while investigations continued."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
